Longevity and metabolism

Table of contents

Researchers have been trying for a long time to find the clock of our biological clock of life. It is undisputed that the metabolic rate plays an important role in this. A reduced metabolism can extend our lifespan a little. With the help of biohacking, we can help our body to do this.

Information exchange within the cells regulates longevity

Our cells have so-called power plants that act as energy suppliers and regulate the metabolism. These power plants are known as mitochondria. They burn food molecules with the help of oxygen to generate energy. However, this process also produces the dreaded free radicals. Feared because they are associated with the ageing process and attack and damage healthy cells.

It is now also known that mitochondria lose activity with advancing age. Incidentally, not only humans are affected by this, but also some other species.

Live longer through calorie restriction

We are in the fortunate position of being able to reduce and repair the above-mentioned cell damage caused by free radicals ourselves. Research on very elderly people shows that the DNA repair protein PARP works particularly effectively in them. In order to support our body in cell repair, a sensible reduction in calories is important.

Intermittent fasting is a suitable method for this, where calories are only consumed within a certain time window. The time windows vary and can be adapted to the respective rhythm of life. However, the fasting phase should not last longer than 36 hours. During the fasting phases, the body is exposed to less oxidative stress and the internal repair processes are accelerated.

Endurance training as a fountain of youth

It is well known that sport is important for our cardiovascular system and keeps us fit and healthy. Studies show that endurance training has a particularly high anti-ageing effect. Weight training can be practiced as a supplement to this. However, regular activity and training is a prerequisite for a demonstrable effect in the cells.
